From May 18 to July 4 1863 the Union troops began to blockade of the city of Vicksburg, Mississippi. The two generals were Union: Maj. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant and Confederate: Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton. The Union had 75,000 soldiers and the confederacy had 34,000. The casualties for the Union 4,800 and for the confederacy 3,300 with nearly 30,000 captured. Finally the confederacy gave out after 48 days and surrendered. It was a Union victory!
